"I am not bound to be true. I must stand with anybody that stand right, and stand with him while he is right, and part with him when he goes wrong."
-Abraham Lincoln

Reflection: This quote means to me that Lincoln knew he wasn't always going to be right and won over the favor but what he meant when he at least tried was always true. He would stand and support the person if he was right but if he was not then Lincoln would not support him. Just like any other person should do. If someone wins but is wrong, then one should not follow, it better to lose and be right than win in the bad light. Lincoln was a rightful president and he should be a great role model to every person. He was in support of getting rid of slaves, which was the right thing to do, but in the beginning he was not favored. Later through doing the right, he stood behind everyone that knew the right thing to do and slavery was ended.
April Fools Day

When is April fools day? April 1st of every year

What is the purpose of this holiday? People play practical jokes and pranks on each other.

What are some theories behind it? Many historians believe that in the ancient times, the new year was celebrated around March 25, after the vernal equinox. After they officially moved the New year to be in January, many people were upset with the change and continued to celebrate it on April 1st, they were known as the April Fools. The citizens would laugh at them and trick them in order to make them seem like fools.

Pros: Everyone gets a good laugh out of it, There is joy in the city, It keeps the tradition going, its a good way of pranking, enemies people are losing the joy in harmless pranks.

Cons: Many people get upset, you can't trust anyone that day, half of things are a lie.

April Fools in Ireland: It was traditional to entrust the victim with an "important letter"to be given to a names person. that person would then ask the victim to take it to someone else, and so on. The letter when finally opened contained the words "send the fool further".

"Character is higher than intellect."
-Ralph Waldo Emerson

Reflection: This quote means to me that what a person is like is valued more than how smart they are. A person can be vain and annoying but have the highest IQ in the world, chances are that he does not have many friends or acquaintances he gets along with. People like to hang around with people who are good to them and do not act to arrogant. People with a higher intellect do not always result in having a better character if they do not use their intelligence to be a better person. Therefore i believe that Emerson is trying to say that in society a subjects personality will be more weighted to the result of your meeting than the height of intellect.

"I trust that my hard work will pay off."
-Tyler Haws

Reflection:This quote means to me that even throughout the hard work Haws knew he put in, he still hoped it would pay off. Like if it wasn't enough. He gained loads of recognition through his outstanding plays on the team, but it didn't come easy. The best was yet to come for him, and the same can happen to anyone who put in the same effort. Hard work and determination is what got Tyler to break several BYU basketball records. If only anyone had the spirit to be as determined in a goal as was Haws, then you can be just as successful as him.You can be born with a talent but you can also work to achieve one.
Harry styles' Career

Harry styles was only 16 years old when he entered the competition as a solo artist. He sang "Isn't she lovely" by Stevie Wonder, his audition immediately gave him a spot onto the next round. For weeks he sang along side the rest of the competitors with all his might, but it wasn't enough. On the day of elimination, He, along with several others were told they would no longer be in the competition. Styles was devastated. Just before he could reach the front of the gate, lead judge of the show, Simon Cowell, had an idea, along with the second judge at the time, that they can make 2 groups. A producer reached the boys and girls and called them back onto the stage. Niall Horan, Liam Payne, Zayn Malik, and Louis Tomlinson, plus another group of girls were on stage along with Harry Styles. The judges announced their decision to keep them in the competition but only if they would keep as a group. They obviously agreed. Since then, the groups of fans amounted with every week they performed and it was down to the finale. To spare you the details, no they did not win, but they gained something better. Simon Cowell knew their potential and had a label signed by SyCo. By 2011 they released their first single "What Makes You Beautiful" and gained the number 1 title in over 40 countries  and broke Sony's record for the most pre-ordered single in Sony's history. "Up All Night" was the band's first album, it gained recognition in numerous countries and stayed number 1 in the UK and the US for weeks. since then, the band's popularity among elders, teens, and kids has only grown and continues to grow as they have since released 3 other albums; "Take Me Home," "Midnight Memories," and "Four." They are also currently in their fourth tour "On the road again" and although they have had many run ins with rumors and rocky relationships, the band continues to be strong and they couldn't have found a better job. Harry Styles was only 16 from a small town in England (Chesire) and is now 21 touring from LA to Japan and everywhere in between.

"True independence and freedom can only exist in doing what's right."
-Brigham Young

Reflection: I think this quote means that true freedom only comes when you do right, law wise and integrity wise. If you follow the law and do what your elders say to do (with respect) then you have true freedom, you won't be put in jail or be grounded and you have the freedom to do what you want. If you were to not follow the rules and you got grounded but you snuck out anyways; then you wouldn't be truly free. You would still be in trouble. True independence and freedom is hand in hand with choosing the right.

The Touchdown

This video showed how one middle school football team showed love for a close friend who had a learning disability and how much they appreciated him for being part of their lives. For months they had planned a game day where they will get as close to the touch down line as they could but never throw a goal. All the players were in on it but the coaches and other friends did not know. On the day of the game, they brought in their friend that they had this whole game planned for and let him score. They wanted to show him their appreciation and it was no better way to do it than letting him throw his first touchdown at a game. Everyone cheered and they carried him up as everyone was filled with joy. These middle school kids from Olivet, Michigan were a great example to everyone that you can always give a little of your time to other people and it will pay off in your whole life for having a great conscious.

"They're only truly great who are truly good
-George Chapman

Reflection: I think what Chapman meant by this quote is that the people who think they are great, are not always good. The great people may sometimes lie and cheat so that doesn't make them a rightful, good, person. Those who are truly great, inside and out, are the ones who are good, the ones who share, give, and live a right life. Without having bad choices and fixing your wrongs is what  makes a person truly great. The good leads to the great and you can't have one without the other.

Cheating: Is the short term gain worth the long term pain?

    Student Success Statement

"Many think that the short term gain will be worth the long term pain, but it isn't. In addition, using steroids is cheating, and there is nothing worse in sports than a cheater. Don't do it."
    -George Mitchell

Reflection: This quote, I believe, means that using steroids or other performance enhancing drugs will make you think you're a big shot for a little while. You might win some awards or be recognized, but later you will only feel worse. You will be called a cheater and you will have no awards and your recognition will not be in good light. The short high of winning is not in fact worth the long term pain and humiliation.

    "I won't cheat." -Dale Murphy

Reflection: This quote means exactly what it states. I won't cheat. Dale Murphy began this organization for children, to teach them honest playing and moral lifestyle. One shouldn't cheat at school, in a game, or especially in a test, the cheaters are not a good way to be known. "I won't cheat" is a great way to show how important honesty is even at a young age. I won't cheat is something to always have in mind.

    Student Success Statement

    "Character matters most." -Dale Murphy

Reflection: I think this quote means that anyone who has a great character is often successful and does the right things. Money and fame might be something people want but they are often rude and don't rightfully make their way to the top and in return they don't have much else. A person's character is how other people decide their worth. If you want to be known for the good and be right then be a good character for that is what matters the most.

Reflection: I would not like to become a heliotherapist because it does not sound interesting to me. I would prefer a more known medical career that does not focus on just one instrument for healing, in this case, the sun,
